Hospitality for Sojourners

William Penn House offers hospitality to travelers, including those whose conscience leads them to the Washington, D.C. area to learn, to meet with others who share their concerns, to engage in dialogue with political leaders and Congressional staff, or to participate in gatherings such as demonstrations and conferences.

We provide:

  • A shared room and breakfast for the current rate of $40 per person per night.
  • A location conveniently near Metro and other transportation.
  • Optional shared worship in the morning with staff and other guests.

Dormitory Style Housing

Accommodations:

We offer shared accommodations only, no private rooms. The bedrooms have 4 to 10 beds each, with a total of 30 beds. You must be able to use stairs. We do not make individual reservations prior to 8 weeks before your visit. Group reservations (4 or more people) can be made at any time. Accommodations include bed linens, towels, and a simple breakfast each morning.

Rates:

  • Our standard rate is $40 per person per night
  • The family rate is $100 per family per night for a family of 4 and $25 for each additional family member.
  • For groups of more than 10 the rate is $35 per night per person.
  • The cost to rent the whole House (not including the kitchen) is $800.

Breakfast is included and served from 8:05-8:35 AM. There is no kitchen use; however a refrigerator, toaster, and microwave are provided.

There is no smoking, alcohol, or drug use in the house.

Check-in is from noon to 9 PM, but you can arrive any time after 9 AM and leave your bags downstairs until your rooms are ready or until you return in the evening. There is a $10 fee for checking in after 9 PM.

Late Check-in (after 9 PM) Our office closes at 9 PM. For a $10 fee you can make arrangements to check-in after 9. You must call and make arrangements with the staff member who will have to stay after hours to accomodate you.

Quiet hours are from 10 PM to 8 AM, but there is no curfew.

Meeting for Worship is held each morning from 7:30 to 8. You are welcome to join us, otherwise we ask that you be especially quiet during that time and respect the silence of the worshipers.

Towels and linens are provided.

Check-out is at 10 AM, but you may leave your bags at the house as long as they are picked up before 9:00 PM.

There is a guest phone in the dining room: the number is (202) 543-3525. We cannot take messages for guests on our office line unless it is an emergency.

Groups:

We are able to accommodate groups of up to 30 persons. If your group would like to stay here, please contact us as soon as you decide on definite dates and know how many beds you will need. If we have space, we will send you a contract to return to us within thirty days along with a 30% non-refundable deposit. We hope to be able to accommodate your group at William Penn House.

Individuals:

We take individual reservations up to 8 weeks in advance of arrival.

Reservations:

To make a reservation you can email or phone us with the following information:

  • Which nights will you stay and what day do you plan to leave?
  • How many are in your group and the number of males and females?
  • Name, address, and phone number. If you are with an organization, please give its name.
  • Credit card number and expiration date (required to hold the reservation).
  • Are you a Quaker and what brings you to Washington?
  • What time of day to expect to arrive? (Our offices close at 9 p.m.and we do not accept guests later than 9.)
