Volunteers

William Penn House welcomes the work and time of volunteers. There are three areas where volunteers help us the most.

We welcome and rely on volunteers to keep William Penn House and all of our programs running. Among the volunteer opportunities are:

  • There is often a need for volunteers to assist the hospitality staff through helping in the office or for help in planning and hosting seminars and programs. Help with running the office. Occasionally, we need assistance with checking people in, and answering phones.
  • Board of Directors and Committees: for the organization and many of our programs we have committees. If you have a passion for youth programs, or education, or a specific social justice issue and like to support programs for these, please contact us and we can talk about various committee needs.
  • Volunteer help with maintenance and improvements for the William Penn House property.Building and computer skills: both the house and our computers occasionally need TLC. If you have a skill in these areas, and can dedicate a few hours to help keep everything running smoothly, we welcome your efforts.
  • Washington Quaker Workcamps: Volunteers are often needed to lead or co-lead Workcamps. These volunteers would be trained by the Workcamp coordinator to supervise, lead and chaperone the Workcampers. They would help with locl Workcamps as well as those in New Orleans and West Virginia. If you would like more direct hands-on involvement in running groups, we are increasingly turning to the community to help with the growing demand for our programs during tough economic times. Helping to run both single-day and multi-day programs primarily for youth and young adults are the greatest need. We are in the process of developing a network of interested people for this.

If you are called to service with youth, or feel led to share your gifts with us please call or e-mail: Byron Sandford, Byron@williampennhouse.org or (202) 543-5560.
