True silence is the rest of the mind, and is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment.

Program Opportunities

All of the programs at The William Penn House have a goal of making a difference in the world.

Some engage participants in direct service activities, exposing them to conditions in the world that are often ignored, and empowering them with an opportunity to make a difference. Other programs inform people about how our social and political systems work, how things are interconnected, and how we can make a difference. Many combine both aspects of these experiences for more intensive learning.

Curent program opportunties include:

Washington Quaker Workcamps:
Appreciative Inquiry: a workshop for for people in position of leadership, and for groups with projects or tasks that are calling for creative and innovative approaches. May 5-7, 2008
Family Eco-Tour/Workcamp: an affordable, week-long family workcamp with an ecological perspective. June 29 - July 6, 2008
Teachers of Peace: a workshop for middle- and high-school teachers creating curriculum for building a "culture of peace".
Testimonies for Our Times: is a seminar program for groups of high school- and college-aged young people. These seminars focus on ways Friends testimonies of peace, equality, truth, simplicity and community can be expressed in the national policy arena.
Simply Awesome Youth Seminar: A weekend workshop for high-school students exploring the Quaker testimony of Simplicity.
